Some Surreal Spirals
1: Play Pretend
We’ll play pretend
And dance on painted clocks
We’ll hold a candle tight
And place it on the dead
We’ll lock a broken hand in place
Preserve it in the water
We’ll stare at the dying snails
And rejoice in a spiral
We’ll ride infinite rainbow crosses
To times gilded ending
A distant cool blaze
We’ll block the gates with fingers
And drown the night in color
We’ll kiss our arms with teeth
And stretch our mouths wide
We’ll fit shoulder in mouth
And drain the flesh
We’ll wear our bones like gowns
And shape them to numbers
We’ll squeeze everything
Into our mouths
Until we are nothing
We’ll sit on the edge of time
Pretending to fiddle
Making the motions
Without any feeling
We look at each other
And throw ourselves off
And land on the past
Back on the clock
We’ll play pretend
Until time makes us real
We’ll wear our mythic masks
Until they wear our spirit
We’ll bow to the audience
Until they can’t see us
We’ll ignore our future
Until there is no past
We’ll be circular bodies
Sleeping on the clocks
Pretending to dance
With face in hand
Searching for digested arms
2: Untitled
Dance within the blue eclipse
Where wooden labyrinths burn
There is a cloudy ocean within the skull
Erase it with the clay
3: Rusty Iron Door
There was a bronze door
In the lions jaw
I peeled the nails from its hands
And twisted the spiral knobs
The door opened forever
Infinitely unraveling
I reached out
Hoping you’d kiss my little straw hands
But my wooden nose
Could not take the lies
And kept XXXXXX
Behind the
rusty iron door.
